Demi-entry 9

I am coming off a nasty two-week cold, which managed to knock me down for over a week and is still beating me up with the concluding deep-chest coughs. It was well-timed, starting during my Holiday break from my day job – the worst fell during free time. The most unfortunate thing is that I didn’t have energy to get much art going. A few thoughts formulated, a canvas built and stretched, and the great pleasure (sense the sarcasm) of State income taxes for our art-practice was the bulk of my accomplishments at home and studio.

I was also able to do a little reading as well. Lately I’ve been reading a book called ‘Art and Language’ and another on the “Art World” of New York City in the 1980’s. I can’t recall its title offhand but it is quite interesting.

So, right now, I’m sitting in my friend’s studio enjoying our little ‘Art Night’ with about 12 people, sipping beers, talking art, and just enjoying the company. We’re discussing art handling and shipping right now – a number of us have worked for a local Art Services company (myself included) and some still work there. In the other room it sounds like people are planning some sort of art trip for the Spring.

Beginning tomorrow evening, I’ll be working on two new works: first, the self-portrait I briefly mentioned last entry (the stretcher is all built, gessoed, and screaming for paint) and, second, the piece for the Seattle Erotic Art Festival Exhibition. I have all sorts of ideas to sort through and start working on.

The self-portrait (as an Astronaut) should be fun to do – I expect to get a good solid coat of paint on this weekend. I’ll be able to show some in-progress images of it in the next entry.

With that update, and my apologies for the brevity, I am concluding this entry – I expect much more to tell next time.

With wishes for a good year for all,

Demi
