February 3, 2009 Gallery Show
Currently, I have a solo show at my gallery in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City. The show opened on the 10th of January, on a rather dismal, snowy day. Nevertheless, a large crowd showed up for the opening, and the gallery was packed throughout the entire evening.
As you can see in the photo, I had the gallery paint the walls a very dark graphite gray in order to make the paintings "pop." I went through a series of paint swatches and settled on a Benjamin Moore color named "Witching Hour." I loved the name of the paint color, and some of the gallery staff thought the name and color were quite appropriate for my work. The dark gray helped give my work a luminous quality, and my paintings had an "afterglow" effect.
